Week 17
Hey All!
Well, another week has gone by and the Longball League standings are as tight as ever. This week, the Mighty Mollusks hold first place by a single point over the San Pedro Sea Monkeys and a mere two points over the Thunder Mountain Lightning. Then, sitting in fourth and fifth place, 10 and 12 points, back are the Tax Dodgers and the Invisible Hands. It looks like it will be an exciting final two months of baseball.
Trivia: Through June of 2010, only 105 major leaguers have homered in their very first at bat in the show. However, the San Francisco Giants had two players accomplish the feat almost exactly one year apart. On September 3, 1974 pitcher John "The Count" Montefusco homered in his very first MLB at bat. Then, on September 2, 1975, shortstop, Johnny LeMaster homered in his very first at bat in the bigs.
Baseball Card of the Week: In honor of John Montefusco, we show him here on his 1976 Topps Rookie Card.
Until next week folks, remember it's not batter's interference unless he actually makes contact with the catcher.
-The Commissioner
