Cool Baseball Card of the Week: 1962 Topps Venezuelan #1- Roger Maris
So, you all know the story of Roger Maris and his 61 dingers in 1961. He was rewarded by Topps by being selected to be card #1 in their 1962 set. So, why is the back of this card in Spanish?
It's because in 1959, 62, 64, 66 and 68 Topps partnered with a Venezuelan company named Benco and produced card sets for Venezuela. The card sets were smaller in number than the regular US sets and the paper and printing weren't as good, but these little beauties command high dollar on the collecting circuit. I love how the bio and cartoon are in Spanish, but the stats are in English.
