Oddball Baseball Play of the Week
In the August 1st Angels-Rays game, the Angels had Mike Trout on first base with Albert Pujols up at the plate. Pujols hit a perfect double play ball to shortstop. However, Trout was running on the pitch and slid in safely to second base ahead of the shortstop's throw to second base. The second baseman then turned and threw to first as if he was completing the double play. Pujols was thrown out at first, however with Trout sliding in safely, only one out was recorded, but the play was still scored 6-4-3 in the scorebook. So, there was a rare case when the classic 6-4-3 infield combination didn't result in a double play.
