We are at the traditional half way mark of the MLB season. Yes, it's the All-Star Break. I know it is just an exhibition, but the All-Star game has always been a cool thing to me. Maybe it is because I grew up in a time where that was the only place outside of the World Series to see AL players take on NL players in a real game. I also grew up in a time where the started played most of the game too. Here's one of my favorite All-Star memories...
1979 All-Star Game: Dave "The Cobra" Parker strikes... twice!
1979 marked the 50th playing of the All-Star game. It was held at the Kingdome. Yup, the mid-summer classic was played indoors. The NL won the game 7-6 with two big assists from Dave Parker of the Pirates.
Assist #1: In the top of the seventh, Boston's Jim Rice hit a pop up that Parker lost in the infamous Kingdome lights. Rice had a cheap double and went for three when Parker fielded the ball and threw a frozen rope to third base where Dodger third sacker Ron "The Penguin" Cey took the throw and slapped the tagged on a very surprised Rice.
Assist #2: In the top of the eighth, Graig Nettles of the Yankees singled with runners at first and second. The runner on second tried to score only to be cut down by another laser from the arm of Parker. The Expos' Gary Carter fielded that laser and tagged downing out at the plate.

And yes folks, Parker's second assist would have been overturned because Gary Carter blocked the plate. LOL!
