The Rules 2014

Hey Longball League Owners!!!!!!!!

The 2014 season is truly upon us.  Yes, the Dodgers and Diamondbacks have already played two games, but that doesn't affect the Longball League.  Both of those games will count in the final standings if you have any of those players.  The commissioner just believes that the season doesn't truly start until Opening Day occurs in the good old United States. So Everyone has until March 30th to provide the commissioner with their rosters.

Here are the rules for 2014.  Please read through them, but they are just about the same as last year.

Rosters
1. Rosters will consist of three hitters, two starting pitchers and one relief pitcher.

Scoring:
1. Hitters score points based on the number of home runs they hit and the runs they bat in. Example: If player A hits three homers and drives in ten runs , then his total is 13 points.

2. Starting pitchers score points by the number of games they win and the number of batters they strike out. For 2013, wins will count as five points each, while strikeouts will count for one point each.  For example, if a pitcher wins two games during the week and strikes out seven batters, then his total points for the week would be 17.

3. Relief pitchers will be judged on saves and strikeouts.  All saves will count for 3 points each, while strikeouts will count for one point each. For example, if your relief pitcher records two saves during the week and strikes out five batters, his total points for the week would be 11.

Roster Moves:
Each owner gets four roster moves for the season. These moves are used for players who aren't doing well on a team. In addition to the four roster moves, owners also get unlimited roster moves for injured players. You can sub out for an injured player without it being counted toward one of your four roster moves. You can also replace that player in your lineup after he comes off being injured with no penalty as well.

So, put together a team and have some fun!!!!

Season Structure

If we have as many or more teams as last year, then a divisional format will be used.  The regular season will begin March 22, 2014 and end at the close of play on August 31, 2014. The first round of the playoffs will run form September 1, 2014 through September 14, 2014.  The World Series will run from September 15, 2014 through September 28, 2014.

And now a look back at some of the oddest moments of the 2013 season...

On April 20th,  in Tampa, The A's Eric Sogard took off from first on a fly ball to center hit by Coco Crisp. Sogard thought there were two outs, but there was only one.  Sogard made it all the way to third by the time Rays CF Desmond Jennings caught the ball.  Jennings then trotted over to first base to double up Soagrd and thereby completing a very rare unassisted double play by a CF.

On August 6th, With the Twins down 13-0 to Kansas City, Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire brings in 2B Jamey Carroll to pitch.  Carroll turns in a 1-2-3 perfect inning of relief.

On August 25th, the Phillies pitching staff was worn out. Phils Manager Ryne Sandberg used not one but two position players to pitch against the Diamondbacks in a tight game. RF Casper Wells and SS John McDonald.  Wells gave up five runs in 2/3 of an inning and was charged with the loss.

On September 13th, The Yankees Robinson Cano bunted down the third base line into the area vacated by the Red Sox infield shift.  Cano cruised into second with a rare bunt double.

One more note:
Just to let everyone know, the Commissioner will be pretty busy the week of July 25th.  So, that week may go without the weekly totals.

Now, put those teams together!
