The Rules 2013

Hey Folks,

The wonderful ritual that is Spring Training is back.  It's a time where everyone is undefeated and pennant dreams abound. Everybody believes that if things go right, then this could be that magic year where when after the last out of the World Series is recorded in far off October, their team will be the one that is called World Champions.  Welcome back Longball League owners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are the rules for 2013.  Please read through them, I've added some things for the upcoming season.

Rosters
1. Rosters will consist of three hitters, two starting pitchers and one relief pitcher.

Scoring:
1. Hitters score points based on the number of home runs they hit and the runs they bat in. Example: If player A hits three homers and drives in ten runs , then his total is 13 points.

2. Starting pitchers score points by the number of games they win and the number of batters they strike out. For 2013, wins will count as five points each, while strikeouts will count for one point each.  For example, if a pitcher wins two games during the week and strikes out seven batters, then his total points for the week would be 17.

3. Relief pitchers will be judged on saves and strikeouts.  All saves will count for 3 points each, while strikeouts will count for one point each. For example, if your relief pitcher records two saves during the week and strikes out five batters, his total points for the week would be 11.

Roster Moves:
Each owner gets four roster moves for the season. These moves are used for players who aren't doing well on a team.
In addition to the four roster moves, owners also get unlimited roster moves for injured players. You can sub out for an injured player without it being counted toward one of your four roster moves. You can also replace that player in your lineup after he comes off being injured with no penalty as well.

So, put together a team and have some fun!!!!

Season Structure

If we have as many or more teams as last year, then a divisional format will be used.  The regular season will begin March 31, 2013 and end at the close of play on August 31, 2013. The first round of the playoffs will run form September 1, 2013 through September 14, 2013.  The World Series will run from September 15, 2013 through September 29, 2013.

Reminder

The season officially starts on March 31st. So, please send me your team name and roster by that date.

And now some...
Spring Training Trivia!

Not all teams "head south" for spring training,  A couple of teams travel north for spring training.   Most notable among those teams are the Miami Marlins.

The Washington Senators were the first team to ever hold spring training in Florida. They trained in Jacksonville way back in 1888.

The New York Yankees train in Tampa, while the Tampa Bay Rays train in Port Charlotte.

The Oakland A's play at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The foul poles at the park come from New York.  They were taken form the Polo Grounds.

You think the Dodgers used to train far away in Vero Beach?  In 1941-42 and 1947 they trained in Havana.  In 1946 they trained in Ciudad Trujillo in the Dominican Republic.

At the Royals and Rangers spring training home in Surprise, Az. there is a merry-go-round in the right field concourse.

Now, put those teams together!
